Large Chain Hung Pendulum
The large chain hung pendulum is a test facility that was designed and built for the dynamic testing of HGV cabs during a project for the DETR. The rig
consists of a cylindrical impactor hung on variable length chains from a rigid framework.
The platform used for securing the truck cabs (or any other suitable structure) to the
ground allows many configurations of vehicle positions and orientations.
The impactor is positioned at the correct height by an electrically operated winch and
is then released remotely by a pneumatic 'claw' mechanism.
Data acquisition is available to record test parameters (e.g. acceleration, force,
velocity and displacement). There is also the option of colour digital photography at up
to 1,000 frames a second.
