Panel Intrusion Rig

This equipment can apply quasi-static loads of up to 1000 kN normal to the plane of the test specimens (max. area 650mm by 650mm) of up to 1m length. The maximum displacement stroke is 300mm. The loading profile can be selected as required. The test specimen is restrained to a rigid base frame as required (fully restrained, simply supported, etc.).

The test rig is driven by a dedicated PC which monitors and presents the test results in numerical or graphical form.

A test procedure and accompanying data monitoring/processing software have been developed specifically for application to the FIA-defined panel test related to F1 racing car sides. The equipment and test procedure comply with FIA requirements and provide the results in the stipulated standard format.

Roll-Hoop/Crush Test Rig

This facility is used to apply quasi-static loading to a structure in a pre-determined constrained direction. The loading conditions include loading direction, loading increment and rate, maximum load or displacement.

Test results include:

  • Load - deflection output (graphical or digital format)
  • Video and photographic records of any failures

Initially developed for FIA specified roll-hoop tests for racing cars, the rig has since found use in other applications.
